HAPPY (ALMOST) 2009!!!

I hope you have all had a relaxing holiday. I know I definitely needed a break with the rush that comes at the end of the semester. The good news is that we have another week of freedom to enjoy before we return to the everyday routine.

A break is a great time to reflect. The cliche of New Years resolutions aside, now is a perfect time to think about what is working for you and what isn't. Sometimes we don't have time to clear our brains during the hectic grind of the school year to think about where we might change course and where we are doing well.

THE START OF A NEW YEAR IS ALSO THE PERFECT TIME TO START THE SECOND SEMESTER WITH SOME BONUS POINTS, WHICH I "RESOLVE" TO RECORD DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF CLASSES!

**Here's the bonus assignment WORTH 5 POINTS (remember that's one letter grade bump on a 50 point assignment)***

1) THINK of at least 5 areas of your life that you could address and 5 resolutions that make sense for you.

Examples: academics, health, personal fitness, spirituality, family and/or personal relationships, attitude, creativity, productivity, etc. The possibilities are endless.

2) POST at least 3 specific resolutions for yourself during the new semester. AT LEAST ONE MUST HAVE TO DO WITH OUR CLASS: AP LITERATURE AND COMP. (You can save the other, more personal, resolutions for your eyes only).

3) ALSO POST at least 2 activities that you have found most enjoyable over break.

***RULES AND RESTRICTIONS APPLY:

1) resolutions must not closely resemble other classmates' posts, meaning......no copying; make your own resolutions

2) same goes for activities over the holidays. You can certainly RESPOND in agreement with someone else's post, but come up with your own ideas.

3) due date is January 4 by 9 p.m. The earlier you post, the fewer people will have taken your ideas.

I'LL LIST MY OWN SAMPLE TO START OFF THE POSTS. ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR BREAK!!!!

RESOLUTIONS
1) to read a new book:

books/ novels develop so many areas of the brain, and I have gotten too busy to make time for reading lately.

2. to smile more, especially around the house:

I have a great life with a great family. Too often, I focus on the every day grind of details and forget to value all the joys.

3. To use our binders more in class and grade them at the end of the 9 weeks:

In the past, we have used binders to do some really important work. This year, Hamlet has taken over a little and binders have been somewhat neglected.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
1) Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were outstanding. Family came over; Santa stopped by; delicious food and togetherness were enjoyed by all.

2) Playing games and working puzzles with my kids. We don't have that kind of "play" time during the school year, and relaxing with them has been amazingly fun.

ANYONE ELSE?????

RESOLUTIONS
1. Finish the Twilight series (I want to know the end!)
2. Keep going to karate consistantly (I've definitely been slacking after training for Florida)
3. Spend more time and effort on my senior project and work hard on my scrapbook.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
1. Playing with all the Wii games I got has been a blast, especially becoming amazing on the drums on rock band :]
2. Hanging out with friends with whom I don't get to do much during school has been great. Its been much needed time seeing as how we have 5 months left together.

Resolutions
1) I need find a new job since I'm currently unemployed.
2) I'm going to try to spend more time at home. So far over break I've been with friends more than family.
3) I need to actually go out and get a scrapbook. I have some pages done just nothing to put them in.

Holiday Activities
1) I got an iPhone for Christmas so I've definitely enjoyed using everyday.
2) I got several new books for Christmas too so I finally have new things to read.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Happy New Year's Eve. :-)

RESOLUTIONS
1) I want to finally accomplish some of the things on my never ending to-do list that I am always adding to, but I never seem to do any of the things listed. For example, make the phone calls necessary to get back into piano lessons, get a new job, etc.

2) I want to travel somewhere I haven't already been. I really want to spend a month in Europe, but so far, I see this as unattainable.

3) Pertaining to English class: I want to stay more organized in every aspect of class (especially my binder though), and I hope to utilize my ability to study more.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
1)I went back to Buffalo for Christmas, and I actually got to have a white Christmas for the first time since I moved here. There were several feet of snow in less then two hours and it was so pretty (:

2)Spending New Years Eve with my boyfriend and his family was really nice. I don't really have much of a family and the little family I do have never really comes together on holidays so it was really nice. Plus we made chocolate chunk cookies which are my favorite (:

RESOLUTIONS...

-Go to bed earlier. I feel like I am never caught up with my sleep during the week. Rest is vital to my athletics.

-Spend more time with my sister. She is a freshman this year and I feel like I need to be more of an role model for her. Next year I will be off to college, so I think it is important to spend time with my family now.

-ORGANIZATION in English class! It is so much easier to get the "A" with regular studying and an organized binder.

ACTIVITIES...

-Colts and Titans game. I had the pleasure of going to Indianapolis again for our annual trip to the Colts' battle against the Titans. The new stadium was incredible but the game was a little disappointing.

-Family cooking day. Every Christmas break, my family and I spend an entire day in the kitchen. On this day, we make dozens of cookies, casseroles, and many other types of foods. As always, I enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with the family.

*Hope everybody's break was enjoyable!

-Have a great day everyone. =)

Resolutions
1. Figure out where I am going next year...I have narrowed it down to four, but I still have no idea where I'm going.

2. End swimming season on a good note...I really want to do well this year in city. I want to end the year being happy with myself.

3.I want to start working on my scrapbook...I have a lot of materials, I just haven't started anything yet.

Activities
1. Going to a 'girls night' at my friends house. I haven't hung out with just the girls in a long time, and it was really fun.

2. It was me and my botfriend's six month anniversary, and we had a very cute date :)

Resolutions

1) To regain the fitness I once had. Junior year I was in great shape and I let my tight schedual lead me to mcdonalds one too many times!

2)To get more ontop of reading assignments in english! Last semester that was my biggest problem

3) To focus on my art portfolio. I have to have a portfolio finished by late feburary to apply for a lovely scholarship.

Holiday activities:
1) Working everyday for eight hours at toys are us. I catered to lost confused stressed parents trying desperately to find the right toy for their tot.

2)Since my sisters and I are grown up instead of presents we get gift cards. My mother made up a game of memory where we matched certain stores and when we matched them we got that giftcard. My sister Andrea has an amazing memory and won by a landslide!

Resolutions

1. Reduce procrastination in all facets of life (including English class):

good time-management makes life easier; it really doesn't have any negative effects. Logic dictates that I try it.

2. Learn a tune or two on the guitar:

I took 4 or 5 lessons over the summer and learned a few things. It'll seem like a waste until I can actually play something that I enjoy.

3. Get to the gym 3-4 days a week and eat a little healthier:

I was actually able to do this from March to July last year, but I stopped before senior year started. I felt better when I was getting regular exercise, so I'll see if I can get something going again.

Activities

1. Playing touch football with friends on 2 of the unseasonably warm days before Christmas.

2. Watching what must have been approaching 50 movies (via netflix, the towering stack of about 30 DVD's that my uncle lent me on Christmas, and one trip to the theater). Some of my favorites: The Departed, Zodiac, The Usual Suspects, the Sixth Sense, There Will Be Blood, and The CC of Benjamin Button.
